We’re visiting Hinton Ampner in Hampshire today, what one might call a gentleman’s residence. Inherited in 1935 by Ralph Dutton, 8th Lord Sherborne, he set about creating his vision of an historic country estate referencing all the best of Georgian grandeur.
We pop in to Mompessen, an 18th century townhouse in the heart of Salisbury Cathedral Close.
Mottisfont is so named for its natural spring or ‘font’, still producing water today. Early settlers used the font as a meeting point up until an Augustinan priory was founded on site in 1201.
